If you don’t know about theSkimm, you’re missing out

The first thing I do when I wake up is read the Daily Skimm.

My mom introduced me to it a couple years ago, and it has become an essential part of my routine ever since. If you aren’t familiar with theSkimm, you’re missing out. theSkimm is a digital media platform whose goal is to make the news accessible so that young women can “live a smarter life.”

theSkimm was founded in 2012 by Danielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin, two millennial producers and entrepreneurs. That’s part of what I love about theSkimm: it’s a platform for women, from women. Not to mention that it is based in New York, my favorite city, so close yet so far from my hometown.

Its most famous feature is its email newsletter, the Daily Skimm. Once you subscribe, this newsletter shows up in your inbox every morning with a synopsis of the news that you need to know that day. In a short and catchy email, the Daily Skimm breaks down the day’s news in an easy to digest way and provides resources for further information. I think of it like sparknotes but for world events.

While the Daily Skimm is its most popular product, theSkimm has also added an app, a podcast, and other multimedia news sources. Additionally, on its website, theSkimm provides many helpful resources for learning about specific topics such as world news, the election, wellness and economics––all of which are carefully broken down to make them easy to comprehend.

theSkimm’s brand and reach have expanded a lot since its founding, and it has grown to have a large following; however,  it is still run by a small team of staff. theSkimm is currently hiring for positions in editorial and production, marketing and sales.

I HIGHLY recommend checking them out! You can access theSkimm here and learn more about its daily newsletter here.
